‘Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs’ is a non-ministerial department of the UK government. As an organisation, HMRC is responsible for the collection of taxes, the payment of some forms of state support including Child Benefit, the administration of other regulatory regimes including the national minimum wage and the control and issue of National Insurance (NI) numbers.
The money collected by HMRC pays for the UK’s public services and helps individuals who need financial support.
